The educational things that D did before school time was watch Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and play on NickJr.com. P doesn't usually find too many things that are educational fun anymore. Most things are geared for little kids and kids at lower learning levels than he is at. At school time we watched an episode of Animal Atlas and an episode or two of Go, Diego, Go. We then started reading M is for Mitten, the kids were not into listening and behaving at this point. D decided she had enough schooling for the week and just played in her room. So P and I did his school work together. In M is for Mitten C was for cherry and we learned a little about the Cherry Capitol of the World! D was for Detroit. I know most people don't think much of Detroit, but there is great history there. Did you know the Detroit had the very first traffic light I believe it said in the world. Pretty cool stuff. This book is way better than I thought it was going to be. I love learning right along with the kids, I don't remember a whole lot from school. P then got busy with his Easy Peasy work. He did Math 2 Day 15 that practiced greater than and less than. For English 1 Day 137 english he worked on reading comprehension by reading a story and then answering questions about the story. He had to refer back to the story a couple times. The rest of the day consisted of grocery shopping, video games, and TV. Saturday: We got moving pretty early on Saturday. We were going out to my sisters' house to move one of my sisters. When we got there the kids got to go watch their cousin at her gymnastics class. After that P went with one of his grandmas to go see Walking With Dinosaurs at the theater. He said it was a good movie. While P was at the movies D hung out at my sisters' house playing with the Barbies she was given from my niece and then made a fort with my niece. When we got home the kids had some friends come and play outside. When they all got sick of the cold and wind they all came inside and played Mine craft on iPads together. After their friends left P played Skylanders with his dad and D played Jump Start on her computer while I watched. Sunday: The kids and I got up and moving early again on Sunday. We were going with my mother-in-law to the zoo. D has asking to go to the zoo since last fall. We have had a really cold and snowy winter this year so we haven't made it yet. Last year at this time we had already been to the zoo at least two or three times. The kids had a great time looking at all the animals and learning some things that they didn't already know. P was telling us all about some of the animals. Oh, and D's favorite animal is the pink flamingo so she had to wear her flamingo shirt and skirt. Unfortunately we couldn't get close enough for her to show her pretty outfit to her flamingo friends. Last year she liked to do that. We took the wagon for the kids when they got tired, walking for four to five hours is a lot, but of course they wouldn't pull me or grandma. P did pull D for a little while. He will be a big help when I take my good camera next time, hehehe. The rest of the day consisted of Skylanders and Wild Kratts. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ If you have any questions about the blog please go to the All About Me page and contact me. This morning D started her day by watching Go, Diego, Go. While she watches her shows she plays around with toys that have migrated into the living room. Usually she is playing with stuffed animals, play kitchen stuff, and Skylander figures. She then moved onto playing Skylanders for a little while. While changing characters she just started playing with the figures instead of the game. Then she wanted her hair in two pony tails so we went and did that. This girl is all over the place, she then went in the basement and played Lego Marvel Super Heroes on the Xbox 360. When she was finished with that she read the Princess Encyclopedia that she had borrowed from the library.
We finally had to wake P up. D ate an early lunch while watching Pokemon on her iPad. When he came down, P watched ago, Diego,, Go and played on his iPad. Both of the kids ended up watching Diego while eating and relaxing on the living room floor. Eventually we got to our school work. I got the book M is for Mitten: a Michigan Alphabet book from the library to read to the kids. Yes, I should have already owned this book and don't know why we don't. We are going to read a couple letters at a time and discuss what is read. Today we read A for apple blossom and B for bridge. We talked about how the apple blossoms turn to apples from pollination that they have already learned about. For the bridge they talk about the Macinac Bridge which we have been over plenty of times. Also in B they talked a little about the Brook Trout, so now P wants to go fishing to catch one. I told him he better call his grandpa cuz mom does not do fishing, never liked it, I don't mind the worms and fish, just boring to me. For P's math he worked on Easy Peasy Math 2 Day 14, practicing counting by 10s with connect the dots. For English he worked on Easy Peasy English 1 Day 36 English, working main ideas. Then he proceeded to read the Pokemon Handbook. For math D worked on Easy Peasy Getting Ready 1 Days 185 math, color sorting, 186 math, lemonade stand, 188 math, decorating an ocean and counting, 190, bug catching and comparing with Curious George. D then started looking at the Pokemon Handbook with P. They were picking out who their favorite Pokemon is, I even had to join in even though I don't pay attention to the show much. The kids proceeded to have Pokemon training and battles. The kids then followed me to my room while I was putting laundry away. D put Pokemon on TV and played her iPad while P messages his aunt before he watched the show and played on his iPad. P kept asking to make sure he was spelling everything correctly. He does pretty well by himself but has to have it perfect. They stayed up in my room for a while after I left them. Eventually I started watching Frozen and the kids came and watched with me and ate dinner. The kids then played Skylanders together until D had to jump in the shower, then P played by himself. They ended the night by watching Go, Deigo, Go and having a snack. The kids wanted me to make a tent out of the bed, so now they are in their "tent" watching shows on their iPads before they go to sleep. D and I started this day off by playing Skylanders together. By the time I was done playing my one level P made it out of bed. He took over playing for me at the end of the level so I could take the dog out who was ringing her bell crazy wanting outside. Most the time the dog wants out just to play, we don't have a fence so I have to be out there with her. Eventually D stopped playing, probably because P got bossy, and played with her kitchen toys and her iPad. After P played by himself for a little bit he then went on to play his iPad.
At lunch time we watch a couple episodes of Animal Atlas, The Biggest and the Fastest and then Something Extra. The kids love learning about animals and they learn a lot from these shows. After our shows the kids wanted a fort. I built a fort tall enough this time to be able to sit up if needed so they could do their school work in it. They worked on their school work at the same time while in the fort. D and I read a chapter out of Rainbow Magic: Layla the Candyfloss Fairy. I am not sure she is ready for a book like this yet, she didn't pay much attention to the book, but she was the one that wanted to read it. Maybe I will try Tinker Bell instead, maybe that will keep her interest, or just stick to picture books, we shall see where this goes. D then worked on her math on her computer. She did Easy Peasy Getting Ready 1 Days 182, 183, and 184. These days took her to games that worked on counting. One game was Sid the Science Kid red light green light that counted how many steps it took you to get across the finish line. After her math was finished she went back to Sid the Science Kid site and played a bunch of games there. This site has great science games that teach the kids a lot while having fun. When she was done with Sid she went to Friv.com and played games there. This site isn't educational but it has ton of games the kids like. I figured she did some good learning and let her do what she wanted. P read a chapter out of one of the Super Pets books he borrowed from the library. These books are great because they are pets of super heroes he loves and it is a good level of reading for him. The chapters aren't too long that he can get through one without complaining it's too much. Being a chapter book is nice also because he has to remember what was going on in the story before reading again a different day. After reading P went on to do his math. On this day he worked on Easy Peasy Math 2 Day 10 which reviewed recognizing where numbers are on a number line, or which order, while only have a couple numbers visible. He was really enjoying the game for this and did it over and over. He saw that D was playing Sid red light green light and went to that site and played a while there. He also went to Friv afterward and played a while. He also went and played some Diego games at Nick Jr for a little bit. When they were done playing on the computers they watched Go, Diego, Go on Amazon Instant Video. They ended up watching this the rest of the day off and on while P played his iPad and D played with her kitchen toys and Skylander figures. Going to bed was a little easier this night but they were still crazy while going off to bed and getting ready. |
