Today I will tell you how mine and Ayden’s typical week goes. I was going to do just a typical week as a whole but that was posing to be a problem since we all have different types of weeks.
A typical day: Somewhere between 7-8 AM Ayden wakes up and his talking to himself gets me out of bed. I get Ayden out of bed and hope he isn’t soaking wet. We head downstairs to let the dog out. Ayden plays in his play area while I make him breakfast, feed the dog, and get my coffee. While Ayden eats his breakfast and watches his show I drink my coffee and check my email and Facebook and whatever other things pop up on my iPad to distract me. When Ayden is finally done eating he wanders around and plays while I finish up on my iPad and do a little breakfast clean up. Somewhere in this time I fix up the chore and today boards, I’ll talk about these another time. Somewhere around 10 AM Ayden goes for his morning nap. During this time I take a shower and get something to eat. I usually try to get something else done like the dishes but it doesn’t usually happen because I get distracted or have to feed the other kids. This first nap seems to usually fly by. After nap time Ayden has lunch. I try to give him something he can feed himself so then I can clean up the kitchen while he eats. He eats a lot so it seems like it takes forever for him to eat. When he finishes we play around the downstairs chasing each other or spinning wheels, toddlers are fun. Eventually Ayden goes down for another nap and I become more productive. During this time I try to get some more chores done with the older kids and hang out with them. I usually try to start dinner at about 5 PM so maybe it will be done at 6PM. Ayden gets up from his nap usually between 4:30-6, so he either plays in his play area or has a snack and a show while I cook dinner. After dinner as a family I do a quick clean up and play with Delilah and Ayden usually. Ayden gets cranky in the evening so it takes some entertaining to keep him happy. At about 8-8:30 PM Ayden has a snack and then goes to bed. For the rest of my toddler free night I either hang out with the older kids playing board, card, or video games, or stare at one of my screens in a daze. Once in a while I will just hang out and talk to my husband, but he usually has something going on when he is home. So this is a typical day for me, a lot of feeding the toddler it seems like. My days do vary depending on the moods of the older kids and what they want to do or if we have different activities going on. Different things that go on during a typical week are: Monday: I feel more productive on Mondays usually, especially after a lazy weekend. After a busy weekend, not so much. Tuesday: During my free time I meal plan and order groceries from Walmart. Wednesday: Pick up groceries from Walmart after lunch. Friday: Homeschool group if we feel up to it. Saturday & Sunday: I try not to have to do any normal weekday chores if I can help it, but I still have to feed the family. Even though I say this is a typical week not every week looks like this, most weeks don't even look like this. There is usually something that comes up that changes a day, and even changing one day can throw off a whole week. Sometimes it feels like a domino effect and eventually we have to pick ourselves back up and get back into the routine. Things that throw off our routine regularly: -husband working out of town -kids wanting to play with mom all day -pure laziness -having to shop at the store for more than a half hour -fun trips out of the house -cranky or sick kids Let me know what kinds of things throw off your routines!

It's amazing how just one little thing in life can take you off track. I don't even remember what went on during my life that made me stop doing this blog. Maybe life got busy, repetitive, boring, who knows, but I do know that a lot has happened since then. Every so often I would think about getting the blog going again, and now I am finally doing it. It is giving me something out of every day life to be accountable for. Sorry to those of you that read the blog regularly, I am back now and I hope I can keep you interested.
A few big things have changed in our lives in the past 2 years. First of all, we added another boy to our family. Ayden turned a year old just over a month ago. He has brought a lot of joy to our family. It is weird sometimes because we were just getting out of the littles stage and now we have another one. Secondly, we made a big move across the country. We have always lived in SE Michigan, but it was time for a change when the opportunity came. We are now settled in northern Oregon. It has been a great experience for our family. It is hard sometimes not having family around like we used to, but we are still glad we took this opportunity. And lastly, we went from relaxed homeschooling to unschooling. I have always wanted to try it out but there was always something nagging at me, the teacher part of me probably. With moving across the country to temporary housing and then into a house, which we aren't totally moved into yet, we weren't doing much schooling anyway and just jumped into unschooling. So far we have done well with it. The kids are still learning things, not necessarily what the schools are teaching kids(that's why we homeschool right?), but what they may remember in the future and use for things in their daily lives. The older two kids are totally different in their interests and what they want to learn about. So with unschooling they can follow what they love and I can help them along the way learning more about it or just supervise what they want to accomplish. They are still young and finding out who they are and what they can do in this world. I really want to give them the tools and abilities to be able to learn on their own, with that anyone can learn anything. So yea, that's what we have been up to. I am going to make regular blogs here and posts on Facebook. Don't forget to check out the Facebook page: Auer Homeschooling Life |
