The morning was a little stressful. The problem started with P not going to sleep until really late and then getting up early. D was playing Jump Start Pet Rescue on the Wii and he kept trying to tell her what to do. When she wouldn't listen to him he yelled at her and hit her. He was sent to his room and chilled out. He behaved then until D was done with her game. P then played the Jump Start game a little until it wasn't working right, then he played Wii Sports. D just danced around and watched her brother play during this time. P then began having a bad attitude toward his game and was yelling at the game. He was told to turn it off and take a break but that made him more upset so he was sent to his room to relax again. D then took the opportunity to watch a Dora Halloween DVD she borrowed from the library. The rest of the morning consisted of watching Dora, Wild Kratts, and playing together. While playing together there was quite a bit of arguing. I thought maybe doing some learning activities would stop some arguing but it just added some whining. P and I did some shared reading with some Super Hero Squad books, Meet the Villains of Villainville and Super Hero Showdown. D sat and listened to both of the stories. While P was complaining about having to more learning D practiced what comes after with Wrap-Ups. P then did -3 and +1 with the Wrap-Ups. We then explored Australia and Egypt with Little Passports. In the Egypt expedition we excavated a pyramid and found a statue of King Tut. P and I played a game of chess where I thought I was actually going to win then made some mad moves and lost yet again. The kids then went off on their own playing Angry Birds on the iPad and taking turns playing Lego Marvel Super Heroes on the Xbox 360 with their dad.
The remainder of the evening the kids watched shows on Netflix and played around the living room. The shows they watched were Iron Man, Super Hero Squad, and Ultimate Spider-Man. Both of the kids must have been tired tonight because they both chose to go to bed early instead of bathing. This was a good choice for D because she was sleeping within 15 minutes. I am sure P will be asleep earlier than he was last night, or least I hope he sleeps tonight. On Wednesdays we usually go to the library for a little midweek out of the house fun. We definitely need to go today because we have a movie due and the children's area has been closed a couple of weeks. When we got there the kids picked a table and were on their way. Both kids go back and forth between the early reader books and the movies. For some reason those are usually the only areas they venture, I try to get them to look in other areas but it doesn't work. After picking out their books and movies they grabbed their library cards and each checked out on their own. There is a nice little area where the kids can play with puzzles, puppet theater, and other educational things. This is where the kids spent some time before we had to leave. They took most of the animal puppets and set them around the shelfs of the puppet theater. I think they may have done one show, but mostly they were looking to see what animals they can identify. While they were playing I walked aimlessly around the children's area to see if I could find anything useful that the kids will actually use. Most the time I get something for the kids to use that I think is cool they think otherwise or we just don't use it.
After the library we were going to go to he mall to play but I was starving! I talked the kids into going to McDonalds instead. They didn't really mind since I told them we would go to one that we don't usually go to. Since it is mid winter break for the public schools it was a little busy, not too bad though since it was a little past lunch time. The kids had a lot of fun playing and while they were playing there was no arguing! There was a little complaining that the other kids weren't sharing the basketball and video game. I could have gotten a lot of reading done if I could read with so many distractions. I probably could have at least taken in a book I got at the library, but who expects to be at McDonalds playing for 2, yes 2, hours. Today was a good day out! For the evening P played Wii Sports. D helped me do some shoveling in the yard and played in the snow. I then had some free time because my husband made dinner tonight. With my free time I played Gator Golf and Cooties with D. The kids ended the night playing Jump Start Pet Rescue on the Wii. |
